So yeah, I agree with others that it's useless for me, and a slap in the face for those without a guild OR don't want to be in one.

Eh, I've got a fun guild/alliance that sponsored one of the districts so if you are interested let me know. I just think that being in a guild is kind of a given. I understand a lot are dead or some people would rather be guildless but if you're guildless that's your decision so don't complain if they give something out meant to be enjoyed by a guild. That's just my take on it.
Edit: There are way better things to complain about like the fact that they didn't change the mask at all...

If they'd re-jigged things so the cpig was the reward for fortunes, the rat was for bringing ingredients and the fireworks to encourage guild members to find and turn in redundant pigs - wouldn't it have pretty much worked for everyone?

Probably but you forget one small detail... This is guru, people will always find something to complain about and this goes for all fan forums not to bash guru or anything. You can please a person with a gift or whatever but people are just impossible to please. Too many different views and always too diverse.

personaly i loved the event, i had a blast hanging with my guildies from [LP] as we sponsered 4 feasts in ad77. i spent nearly 20 hours in game on sunday doing event stuff and hanging with guildies and in general having a blast.
i opened 150 or so furtunes, didn't get a rat, was kinda dissapointed but i got alot of other things for my titles so i was happy, got to r3 lucky and nearly r4 unlcuky so i was happy there. the crates of fireworks are freaking AWESOME imo, i lvoe them so much, and so does our guild and alliance mates.
the lag sucked, but its normal for the lag to happen at events, so i didn't really mind.
the mini pig trade in was disapointing cause i only had 1 mini pig, oh well, they look like walking lightbulbs anyways.

What are you on? I'm a relatively new player (3 months), have never so much as seen an ecto, my plat has never risen past 2 digits, and I had a blast and "accomplished" quite a bit.
At the end of the weekend I was down about 15 plat from when it started. In the course of that weekend I spent 20K on a rat since the 1500+ tokens I nabbed with quests and roller beetle and dragon arena "only" gave me gold and stacks of fireworks. I spent about 20K on festival tickets and raised my luck from something like 7K to 43K. I got more snacks gratis to work on my sweet tooth title which I enjoy doing because I just use it to naviagate towns with my assassin, slow and steady to win the race. The party animal track is something else to do or not do - since I was already in the habit of setting off stuff I got at Wintersday when bored, it's a bonus, not some mandatory money sink I have to do. I finally got enough Balthazaar faction to do something with and unlocked a bunch of skills for my heros. If I were to sell all the consumables I got for doing what I would have been doing anyhow, I'd be up 30K instead of down 15K.
How excactly is it only the rich getting anything done? They gave you a way to get 150 tokens per character for less than an hours time and 10 glittering dusts. Between the gold from fortunes and the quests, this also netted you around 5 plat per character. Plus, if you were so curmudgeonly to think that if you can't max a title there's no reason to participate in it, you probably also were able to nab another 3-4 plat's worth of consumables sold to other players *easily*. Heck, for the true scrooges out there, the 35 minute set of quests in the Shing Jea district could have just been converted to 12-17 plat by selling the tokens.
Yep, nothing here for the casual non-rich player at all

lol - I started over a month or so ago - deleted all characters and gave away everything. I literally had less then 1k across all characters and only 1 character who had even gone beyond the 1st mission at the beginning of the weekend. I earned a total of 195k and 2 rats in three days just doing festival quests. I may not like a couple of details about the fest - but it is definitely not just for the rich or experienced!

*Double-take*
Wha-what? How did you get 195k out of that?
I earned a few hundred Party Animal points, maybe 5k or so, 0 rats, and a lot of frustration just doing festival quests.

-Make a new character
-Get to level 5
-Do all festival quests
-Sell Tokens? Or maybe use the tokens to get Lunar Fortunes and sell everything you get from them
-Delete the character
-Rinse and repeat
-Chinese's farmers might want you to work with them

Basically just plain sold everything - got it down to the point I could make new char and run through 1st 3 quests for 25 fortunes in less than 20 minutes.
20k was from selling crates from finale so that leaves 175k from quests
Another 40k was from 2 rats I sold (not counting the 2 I kept) so that takes it to 145k (ok - I was very very lucky there to get 4 rats from about 500 fortunes - others were opening more than 1000 fortunes and no rat - oh, I also gave another rat away so that was actually 5 rats from 500 fortunes )
At least 12k from selling items from the gift bags from finale
Leaves 133k from the quests
Between gold for holiday quests themselves, gold for the leveling quests and money from sales of fireworks that worked out to about 4k per run - 12k per hour.
A total of just over 11 hours play in 3 days for 195 - so less than 4 hrs per day. (kind of boring and not how I would want to make a living but it was only for a weekend)

Well firstly I hoped everyone enjoyed my guide for this event, think it came out well this year
My feedback:
Pros:
- Quests: Fun and easy, I soloed them all - a lot easier if you have all outposts available
- Crates of Fireworks: a cool item - something fun and different. I'm going to burn most of them off and save them for my alliances next new years party.
Cons:
- No double points - there was a rumour going about this, there something in the .dat file as well. Yet it never happened! I'm keeping my fireworks in the meantime saved up yet in case.

Well you remember WRONG then. Anet gave you a time span of the event if you chose to ignore it because you "remembered" WRONGLY then that's your fault not Anets. Everyone had plenty of time to turn in anything and everything. If you chose to play to the last minute of the event then once again that is your fault not Anets or NCsofts. Maybe next year you'll "obey the rules".

Actually, I believe he is correct - the collectors remained for a short time after the event last year. However, they did announce ahead of time this year that the collectors would be removed at the end of the festival and to be sure to turn in tokens before then - soooo, still no excuse for not paying attention.

where was it announced? i dont see it on this page http://www.guildwars.com/events/inga...08/default.php
previous festivals have either overrun, or have had collectors loiter in the town(s) for a week or two after. this time everything stopped at 8pm gmt.
its simply poor to not have the collectors after the event.
mini cestital pig thing, that was poorly done
mini rat, be good if it was done in some non random way
quests where ok
very little lag
stuff dropping into inventory ftw
